Hartwood was founded in 2021, blending personnel with diverse experience in both the construction and building industry as well as finance and entrepreneurship. The culmination of which allows for a fresh perspective for the business, offering exciting projects grounded in responsible and quality building.
With extensive industry expertise, we are committed to offering bespoke solutions and ensuring every project is thoughtfully tailored to reflect the unique vision and requirements of our clients.
Hartwood is a small, senior team. When you work with us, the people you meet at the first meeting are the same people who run your project on site. There is no handoff to a junior team once the contract is signed.
Whether you are building your new dream home, adding an affordable extension or transforming an older building, blending contemporary innovation with the preservation of historical significance, we are on hand to deliver the solution for you.
In also buying our own land and building our own developments we are constantly aware of what homeowners are looking for. We partner with professionals in all areas of building and planning to give a complete service from concept to the finished property.
Director
Tim has spent his career on site, progressing from trades through to site management on residential projects of all scales across the South East. As a director at Hartwood, he leads project delivery – turning drawings into a buildable plan, sequencing the work properly, and keeping quality and safety consistent from groundworks to handover.
Tim’s strength is practical, detailed knowledge: spotting buildability issues early, coordinating trades so the job runs smoothly, and making sure the right checks happen at the right time – from structure and weathering to first fix and finishes. He is hands-on with programmes, site logistics, and the decisions that protect the end result.
Director
Kirstie brings a client’s perspective to everything Hartwood does. Having navigated the self-build process herself, she understands where the uncertainty sits – and what good communication looks like at each stage.
After a career break, Kirstie moved into property development following a career in the City as a Chartered Accountant. As a director, she helps set the standard for how Hartwood looks after clients – clear expectations, straight answers, and a project that feels organised from day one – while also supporting business finance and using her entrepreneurial eye to spot the right opportunities for the company.
Contract Manager
Mike is Hartwood’s contract manager, involved across the practical delivery of our builds – from programme and procurement through to quality and close-out. With a background in the Army and more than 30 years in main contracting, he brings calm, methodical control to the moving parts on site.
On a live project, Mike helps keep the plan honest: coordinating subcontractors, staying on top of sequencing, and making sure details are finished properly rather than simply “finished”. He’s also the person who spots issues early – the small clashes and omissions that can become expensive later – and gets them resolved before they slow the job down.
Quantity Surveyor
Nick is Hartwood’s quantity surveyor, with a background in commercial management built across many years of residential projects across Kent, Surrey, and Sussex. He leads on pricing and tender work – building clear, itemised cost plans, checking scope and drawings, and making sure the fixed-price promise to clients means exactly that.
As projects move into delivery, Nick supports the commercial side: managing valuations, tracking variations, and keeping the numbers aligned with the programme. If you want to understand what a project will cost and why, Nick is the person to talk to.
Business Development
Lee has spent 5 years working in client-facing roles in the construction sector, developing an instinct for what clients need before they are ready to commit to a project. At Hartwood, he looks after business development – managing incoming enquiries, qualifying new leads, and making sure every initial conversation is worth both parties’ time.
Lee is usually the first voice of Hartwood. He listens for what matters, asks the questions that prevent wasted time later, and makes sure the right information is gathered early – from drawings and site constraints to budgets, timescales, and the decisions that affect cost.
When a project is a good fit, Lee coordinates the next steps and keeps communication clear and responsive. The aim is simple: no hard sell, no vague promises – just a professional first step into a well-run build.
Marketing & New Business
Josh looks after marketing and new business at Hartwood – managing enquiries, keeping the project pipeline organised, and making sure potential clients get clear, prompt answers from the very first conversation. He supports the team with lead qualification, early-stage information gathering, and the handover into pricing and pre-start once a project is a good fit.
Josh also helps keep the Hartwood website and project case studies up to date – shaping how the work is presented, and making sure the detail matches what is actually built on site.
